What Direction Do I Face For Line Dances?

What direction do i face?
What direction do i face?

People just starting off with line dancing have tons of questions. This is the first in a serious of dance floor etiquette posts. So what direction do I face for line dances? Well, the answer to that is not so easy. But, thankfully there are usually only three options and almost all dances face off facing the audience or side of the bar where most of those not dancing are sitting or standing. After the start there are those three options for how many walls the dance restarts facing.

  1. Four Wall Dance - This is the most common type and the dance usually restarts 1/4 turn and you end up facing each wall at least once, hence the 4 wall dance name.
  2. Two Wall Dance - This is the next common and you start facing the audience and then after finishing the sequence of steps, you end up facing away from the audience. Each start begins 180 degrees from the previous.
  3. One Wall Dance - There are very few line dances that only face one wall after each set of steps is finished.

Really, all the matters in line dancing is that you're having fun while respecting those around you. So, if you forget a turn, no worries! Just get facing the same way as everyone else and begin with the next step that you recognize. Happy dancing!

  1. What direction do I face for line dances?
  2. What if more than one dance is happening at the same time?
  3. What direction do we face for couples dances?
  4. Drinks on the dance floor.
  5. What line dance do we do to a particular song?

Dance Floor Etiquette

Line Dancing Etiquette
Line Dancing Etiquette

When you go line dancing, you see all these people on the dance floor and everyone seems to know what dance to do, what direction to face and where to stand on the dance floor. How does that happen? Other than taking dance lessons for specific dances, there is actually a loose set of rules that helps prevent chaos, and to be honest sometimes fights, on the dance floor. In the next few weeks, I will go into some of the dance etiquette that makes country line dancing easy and fun to do wherever you go! We will talk about:

  1. What direction do I face for line dances?
  2. What if more than one dance is happening at the same time?
  3. What direction do we face for couples dances?
  4. Drinks on the dance floor.
  5. What line dance do we do to a particular song?

These are just a few parts of Country Dance Etiquette and I hope you stay with me to learn about each one.

KRTY Radio: I Can Sleep When I'm Dead!

Yes, I am still alive! And yes, this blog still exists! Since writing herelast, I have practiced on KRTY a few more times and forgot to let y'all know here. Apologies for that. Some of you were listening, requesting songs and staying up past your bedtimes, and for that I thank you!

While staying up past most people's bedtime and practicing the skills of  a radio DJ are fun and exciting, I must take a break from those activities to focus on some other things in life, such as paying the bills. I know, I know, that sounds really old and boring and "I can sleep when I'm dead." Some of the things that will be getting more of my attention are CPR classes in San Jose and Ask4Adam.com (where a new site will soon exist).

Before anyone gets any ideas, I'm still with KRTY in event marketing and social media, and there will hopefully be some new and exciting things in that arena, but for now, I am taking a break from learning to be a radio DJ. I am eternally grateful to our Program Director for giving me the opportunity to learn and grow in my radio career.

My hope is that you stick with me on this blog and hear some other tales of intrigue and mystery...or at least some good country fun!

Have a great Sunday afternoon and go 49ers! :)
