What Direction Do I Face For Line Dances?

What direction do i face?People just starting off with line dancing have tons of questions. This is the first in a serious of dance floor etiquette posts. So what direction do I face for line dances?

Well, the answer to that is not so easy. But, thankfully there are usually only three options and almost all dances face off facing the audience or side of the bar where most of those not dancing are sitting or standing. After the start there are those three options for how many walls the dance restarts facing.

  1. Four Wall Dance – This is the most common type and the dance usually restarts 1/4 turn and you end up facing each wall at least once, hence the 4 wall dance name.
  2. Two Wall Dance – This is the next common and you start facing the audience and then after finishing the sequence of steps, you end up facing away from the audience. Each start begins 180 degrees from the previous.
  3. One Wall Dance – There are very few line dances that only face one wall after each set of steps is finished.

Really, all the matters in line dancing is that you’re having fun while respecting those around you. So, if you forget a turn, no worries! Just get facing the same way as everyone else and begin with the next step that you recognize. Happy dancing!

  1. What direction do I face for line dances?
  2. What if more than one dance is happening at the same time?
  3. What direction do we face for couples dances?
  4. Drinks on the dance floor.
  5. What line dance do we do to a particular song?

Dance Floor Etiquette

Line Dancing Etiquette

When you go line dancing, you see all these people on the dance floor and everyone seems to know what dance to do, what direction to face and where to stand on the dance floor. How does that happen? Other than taking dance lessons for specific dances, there is actually a loose set of rules that helps prevent chaos, and to be honest sometimes fights, on the dance floor. In the next few weeks, I will go into some of the dance etiquette that makes country line dancing easy and fun to do wherever you go! We will talk about:

  1. What direction do I face for line dances?
  2. What if more than one dance is happening at the same time?
  3. What direction do we face for couples dances?
  4. Drinks on the dance floor.
  5. What line dance do we do to a particular song?

These are just a few parts of Country Dance Etiquette and I hope you stay with me to learn about each one.

Avon Walk for Breast Cancer 2014 Thank You!

Avon Walk for Breast Cancer 2014This year the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer was fast approaching & although many generous people already donated, my $1,800 goal was about $1k short. That’s when the whole “shave the beard or keep it” for $1,000 came up. So thankful that Beck’s Shoes Inc. stepped up and accepted that challenge. They also set me up with some amazingly comfortable New Balance San Jose shoes & socks. Look mom, no blisters! Again, thanks to Beck’s & everyone else too for helping me surpass the goal!!

Avon Walk for Breast Cancer San Francisco $1,000 Challenge

Avon Walk for Breast Cancer San FranciscoBeck's Shoes**UPDATE**: Beck’s Shoes accepted the $1,000 Challenge! We are still taking any donations you can afford for early detection  & treatment! $1,000 CHALLENGE! Over the past #192days, this beard has grown, and grown, and grown some more. Many people have asked when I was going to shave. A friend suggested I shave it for a donation to my favorite charity, but I figured I’d take it one more step. If any one person or company, with a single donation, donates $1,000 to the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer using my link, I will KEEP or SHAVE my #192day beard. You have until 5/22/14 to make that $1,000 donation. This person or company will be recognized in the following ways. – A post on my homepage with your picture or logo. DancingCowboy.com – A post on my Facebook, Instagram & Twitter with your picture or logo. – Four mentions during the James Wesley Rodeo Club show. (600-900 people at a live show) – If shave is your choice, the option to make the first run of the electric clippers (before lessons at the James Wesley show). – Sorry, no 420 or XXX companies allowed. I will have the last say with regards to propriety. – If the donor wishes me to keep the beard, it will stay, AT LEAST, for the duration of the 365 days until #NoShaveNovember 2014 begins (Nov 1st, 2014) Should it stay, or should it go? A $1,000 donation decides!

Crash My Party by Luke Bryan

Before the album Crash My Party came out, I had only heard the two singles, “Crash My Party,” and “That’s My Kind of Night,” in their recorded version.

When the album came out tonight, I listened to rest of it and came to one conclusion. Just about ANY song would have been better than “That’s My Kind of Night” (winner, winner, catfish dinner) to issue as a follow-up to “Crash My Party.”

The rest of the album has the familiar combination Luke usually brings to his music, great lyrics and good music.

I would definitely recommend Crash My Party, and you even get a digital download if you buy the physical CD. How can you go wrong there?
